The number of Cristiano Ronaldo records etched into Real Madrid‘s illustrious history is simply staggering.
Initially joining from Manchester United in 2009 for a then world-record transfer fee of £80 million (€94m), the Portuguese forward has transformed into an all-time great at the BernabeuHe’s won one La Liga title (and looks likely to win another this season), two Copa del Rey trophies and two Champions League medals – which includes Los Blancos’ 10th European triumph, La Decima.
However, the iconic No.7 has also achieved a ridiculous amount of individual records; he’s Real Madrid’s all-time top goalscorer (392), the only player to score 50+ goals in six consecutive seasons, he’s scored the most hat-tricks (32) in La Liga history and is the only player to score 100 goals in Uefa club competitions.
Having signed a new five-year contract in the Spanish capital at the end of 2016, Ronaldo could remain at Real until 2021 when he’ll be 36 years old, so it’s safe to bet that he’ll break a few more records on his way to retirement.
With this in mind, what’s left for #CR7 to achieve in Madrid?
1) La Liga’s all-time top goalscorer
Lionel Messi, the current record holder, has a 60-goal advantage at the moment with 339 compared to Ronaldo’s 279.
2) Most appearances for Real Madrid
Ronaldo may have taken Raul’s club scoring record but he has a while to go to eclipse the Spaniard’s number of appearances. Currently the Portugal international has featured in 392 games compared to Raul’s 741.
3) Most goals for Real Madrid in El Clasico
Ronaldo is currently two behind Alfredo Di Stéfano who scored 18 goals in this fixture for Los Blancos.
4) Most Champions League appearances for Real Madrid
Ronaldo has made 140 appearances in the Champions League but only 84 of those have come with Real Madrid so he’s got a long way to go to match Iker Casillas’ 152 appearances
5) Oldest post-WW2 goalscorer
Ronaldo says he’ll be at Los Blancos for another 10 years so he should surpass club legend Ferenc Puskas’ record of being the club’s oldest post-war goalscorer when he netted against Sevilla on November 1965 aged 38 years and 233 days.
6) Fastest Real Madrid goal
The current record is held by Chilean legend Ivan Zamorano who took 12 seconds to score past Sevilla in September 1994.
7) Most goals in a single Copa del Rey campaign
This record is currently held by Puskás, who netted 14 times in the competition during the 1960-61 season. The most Ronaldo has managed during a single year is seven.
8) Most La Liga appearances for Real Madrid as a foreign player
Ronaldo is a distance away from surpassing Roberto Carlos, who enjoyed an 11-year association with Spain’s most decorated club, in which he made 370 league appearances. Ronaldo is currently on 260.
9) Oldest post-WW2 player
A record Ronaldo should take if he does indeed play for another 10 years at Real Madrid. It’s currently held by the legendary Puskas who played his final game for Los Blancos aged 38 years, 233 days
