Ander Herrera is one of the smartest players I have managed - Jose Mourinho

Ander Herrera is one of the smartest players I have managed

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has described Ander Herrera as “one of the smartest players” he’s ever coached.

The 27-year-old been a pivotal figure in the Portuguese tactician’s first season at Old Trafford which culminated by winning the Europa League.

It was during that final against Ajax the Spanish international produced a moment which greatly impressed his manager who made the detailed account while giving a recent lecture at the University of Lisbon.

“Mourinho talked a lot about Herrera, saying he is one of the smartest players he has had during his career,” wrote Petter Skogsletten, one of the students present, on Reddit.

“Herrera took hold of [Henrikh] Mkhitaryan and sent him in front of the keeper, while Herrera would take the pitch outside the box. Mourinho said he was so frustrated that he said ‘What the hell is going on?’

“It turned out Herrera had taken responsibility in the situation – Mkhitaryan had a yellow card. If Ajax suddenly counterattacked and Mkhitaryan had fouled the player, he would have been sent off.

“Mourinho said he is incredibly pleased to have such players who can handle situations on their own and adjust.”

Herrera belatedly joined the Red Devils in the summer of 2014 for a reported £30.6m after a prospective move from Athletic Bilbao broke down 12 months prior.

After a slow start under former boss Louis van Gaal he established himself as one of United’s most important midfielder a reputation he’s carried into Mourinho’s debut campaign.

Renowned for his tenacity and strong passing ability, Herrera is firmly a fan favorite among United’s vast legion of supporters and was recently named as the fans’ player of the season.

Widely considered a future captain, Herrera to date has made 122 appearances for the record 20-time English champions, registering 15 goals and 22 assists in the process.

Jose Mourinho believes Ajax shouldn't be in the Europa League final

Jose Mourinho believes Ajax shouldn't be in the Europa League final

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has said that Ajax shouldn't be in the Europa League final as he objects with the rule that permits sides eliminated from the Champions League to drop into the tournament.

Under UEFA rules, the teams that finish third in the Champions League group stage will play in the Europa League for the knock-out rounds.

Also, the clubs eliminated in the Champions League play-offs are inserted into the Europa League group stages.

Ajax are now set to play against Manchester United in the final next week, but Mourinho is not happy his side will be playing against Ajax, as he says they should not have been allowed to the competition.

The Manchester United boss feels that any side eliminated from the Champions League should not be given the opportunity to enter the Europa League, saying that it devalues the prestige of the tournament.

According to the Mirror: He said “They are a Champions League team, they come from the Champions League, I always disagree with it.

“I think a team shouldn’t play two European competitions in the same season, they should go home, they shouldn’t have the option to play the Europa League.

“The Europa League is for teams who go into the Europa League, like us. We finished fifth last season, so we went into the Europa League.

“We started the Europa League from the beginning of the season, and we have had to fight to be where we are.”

Real Madrid Duo Set For Manchester United Move!

Real Madrid Squad

As reported by ESPN FC, two Real Madrid stars are making the move to Old Trafford this summer.

James Rodriguez left the pitch against Sevilla on Sunday with a body language that looked as if he were saying his final goodbyes to the Bernabéu (Sunday's match against Sevilla was Real's last home game of the season). He slowly left and applauded with fans in what felt like a parting of ways.
Rodriguez would be brought into United as an attacking midfielder, possibly to replace the gap Rooney will leave should he depart United after a long term of service this summer. United fans will be sad to see the all-time top scorer go but will be ecstatic to gain the dynamic style Rodriguez brings to the pitch.

James Rodriguez Move To Man United

Rodriguez would move to United as an attacking midfielder, possibly to fill the hole Rooney would leave if he leaves United this summer. United fans will be sad to see the all-time top goal scorer go but will be ecstatic to gain the dynamic style Rodriguez brings to United.

Possibly joining Rodriguez on the way to United is Gareth Bale.  Every year there is a rumor that Bale is going to United. Real Madrid have an overpowered squad at the moment, which is creating a lot of competition for starting positions and overall game time. Bale has suffered setbacks due to his injuries, and other players have stepped up in his absence. And the Welshman will want his play time, which United can provide.
This pair joining the Red Devils would be massive for the English club, who have dropped in form since the departure of Ferguson 4 years ago. With Bale on the wing and Rodriguez in midfield, Mourinho might have the squad he needs to bring United back to the top.

David de Gea's mansion has been put up for sale

David de Gea's £3.85m home has been put up for sale, fuelling speculation that he could leave Manchester United in the summer.

There have been claims in recent weeks that De Gea has fallen out with manager Jose Mourinho, who has picked Sergio Romero frequently in recent weeks.
Images on the Sun's website show the goalkeeper's £3.85m home in all its glory as Real Madrid step up their interest in a £60m move this summer.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic's Man Utd Future in Doubt as Report Suggests Forward Could Be Out Until January

Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Manchester United look likely to be counting the cost of their extra time win over Anderlecht for some time, with news emerging on Friday evening of Zlatan Ibrahimovic being ruled out until next January.
The Swedish forward hurt himself by landing awkwardly during the Red Devils' Europa League quarter-final tie against Anderlecht on Thursday, with scans revealed badly damaged knee ligaments - and ESPN reporting that the damage could keep the Swede out until 2018.

"I don't think they are easy injuries, but I prefer to wait for all the tests to be done tomorrow," manager Jose Mourinho explained after the match - which United won 2-1 to progress to the next round of games.

Marcos Rojo also suffered an injury in the match, having received a blow to his knee. And Mourinho was not in the least bit optimistic about his stars. "I want to wait. My feeling is not great for both," he added. "I want to be optimistic, but I'm not. I can't say any more than that, I am not a doctor."
The news on Ibrahimovic could have a serious impact on the club's long-term planning, with the club and Ibrahimovic still weighing up the option to extend his contract into next season.

To date, he had refused to commit his future to the club, even recently suggesting that they did not match his ambitions - and club officials failed to confirm to ESPN whether the club would be obliged to hand over an extra year's salary in light of the injury.

If the reports are indeed correct, then this sets the forward up perfectly for his long-awaited introduction to MLS, as their season begins in early in the calendar year
Ibrahimovic scored 28 goals in 46 appearances for Mourinho's side this season, and his absence - despite the brilliance of Marcus Rashford - could really hurt their Champions League hopes.

Ashley Young uncertain of his Manchester United future

Ashley Young

Ashley Young has admitted he is unsure if he will still be at Manchester United next season amid rumours of a transfer for the winger.

Young has only started six Premier League matches this season and the 31-year-old was reportedly a transfer target for a number of Chinese Super League clubs earlier this year.
However Young appears to have forced his way back into Jose Mourinho’s first team plans at Old Trafford, starting four of the club’s last five league matches and captaining the Red Devils against Chelsea on Sunday.
Young is adamant that he did not bare the speculation about his future in January any mind as he looked to play more frequently for United but has confessed that he is only looking to the end of the season.
Beyond that the former Aston Villa man indicated that there is potential for a departure from United.

Young told the Telegraph: “There was of course, and there is always, speculation and especially when there is a transfer window and you are not playing.
“But I have always said that I want to play as much as possible. What the future holds I am not too sure. I am just concentrating on each game and when the manager calls on me I will give 100 per cent and look to play as well as I can.
“I am looking to play as many games as I can between now and the end of the season. That is what I am concentrating on now. That is the main focus for me and then we will see what happens.
“I have another year left on my contract and an option after that so if there is anything there to be discussed you would have to ask the manager.”

Ander Herrera reveals what Jose Mourinho told him on his first day at Man Utd

Ander Herrera

Ander Herrera has hailed the influence of Jose Mourinho on his Manchester United career, revealing the coach assured him that he would be “an important player” for the Red Devils.
Herrera scored his first goal in the Premier League this season at the weekend in United’s 2-0 victory over league leaders Chelsea.
The Spaniard has been a consistent figure in Mourinho’s starting XI this campaign at Old Trafford, playing in 25 league contests of which 19 have been the full 90 minutes.
And the 27-year-old has revealed that Mourinho had promised him such a role in the squad during their first ever conversation after the Portuguese coach took charge at Old Trafford.
Herrera also indicated that such a consistent campaign has led to him feeling much more confident at the club this year, although admitted he is aware that the club’s ability to attract the world’s biggest names means he can’t afford to rest on his laurels.
Herrera told the club’s official website: “I am very thankful to him. This season has been the most regular one for me at the club and that is with Mourinho on the bench.
“I am very happy. He gave me, from the first day, a lot of confidence and he told me I was going to be an important player for him. I will always be thankful but football changes.
“We have great players and Manchester United has the capacity to sign big players, so I cannot sleep. I have to keep working, performing and giving what the manager wants me to give.”

David De Gea will not leave Manchester United - Jose Mourinho

David De Gea

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has called on David De Gea to continue to concentrate despite the renewed speculation linking the goalkeeper with Real Madrid.
De Jia did not appear in United's victory over Sunderland at the end of last week, with a hip injury reported as a reason for the omission. However, it was suggested that Mourinho left the Spaniard because he was frustrated by the recent performance.

“I’m not interested in the speculation,” Mourinho is quoted by the Daily Mail.
“I think if the player is, he shouldn’t be because we are playing very important teams and every match for us is crucial.
“In the Premier League we lose a match and the top four gets almost impossible, in the Europa League we lose a match and we are in trouble. Every match is one that demands from every one of us total focus.
