Coutinho bettered Juninho’s record as the leading Brazilian goalscorer in the Premier League this past weekend after scoring his 30th against Stoke City in Liverpool’s 2-1 win
The 24-year-old seems to have rediscovered his form after a dip following his return from injury with Coutinho netting three times in his last three matches.
And Juninho – who spent three spells in England with Middlesbrough – believes that Coutinho is bettered only by Neymar when it comes to the current crop of Brazilian footballers, highlighting his ability to utilise space.
The 44-year-old believes the goalscoring record is now in good hands with Coutinho likely to further extend his lead at the top of the rankings.
Philippe Coutinho has had the most shots from outside the penalty area for Liverpool in the Premier League this season Juninho told the Daily Mail: “I am delighted that he takes my record. I can’t think of anyone better – the record couldn’t be in better hands."
“Coutinho can be considered, after Neymar, the best player in Brazil. He’s different class and he deserves everything he is achieving because he has worked very hard for it.

“If you have an intelligence to your game then you can find the space on the pitch and because the game in England is so fast that means a lot of the time it is also very open.“One of Coutinho’s biggest qualities is that ability to find the space. People think that type of player will have more difficulties adapting to English football than say Spanish football but in England I found a lot more space than I did in Spain. The intensity is there but if you get past the first wave of pressure then the pitch opens up.”
Coutinho’s effort against Stoke takes him up to nine in the Premier League this season, the most he has scored in an individual campaign.
