Sergio Ramos hits back at Atletico Madrid’s Twitter account for club values jibe

Sergio Ramos has criticised a tweet from Atletico Madrid‘s official Twitter account for what he felt questioned the values of Real Madrid.

In the build up to the two city rivals’ Champions League semi-final second leg clash at the Vicente Calderon, the home side have posted messages about the club.

“We fight for our dreams without anyone giving us anything,” said one, accompanied by the hashtag ‘#NoLoPuedenEntender’, which translates as “they cannot understand”.

Further messages such as “I love you for your values, not for what you win” have also been posted which is believed to be in response to a banner at the Santiago Bernabeu asking ‘How does it feel to have lost two Champions League finals?’

When speaking about the controversy in a pre-match press conference, Ramos insists the Los Blancos squad is filled with humble players willing to sacrifices on the pitch.

“Here it seems we were all born in Beverly Hills, with a current account of more than €40 million,” Ramos said, as reported by Football Espana.
“But we have many people who come from humble backgrounds, who were brought up well. All the campaigns, whatever anyone wants to do, does not change what we do.
“We have our values, our humility and make our sacrifice on the pitch.”

Ramos has been the scourge of Atletico in Champions League matches over the past three years.

He denied Diego Simeone’s side right at the death in the 2014 final with an injury time equaliser and then opened the scoring as well as successfully converting in the penalty shootout in last year’s final.

After Real Madrid’s win over Bayern Munich on Tuesday, Cristiano Ronaldo and Sergio Ramos were reportedly seen asking Robert Lewandowski to sign for Los Blancos. President Florentino Pérez also spoke with the forward to ask about his family and wish him luck for the rest of the season.

According to a Spanish journalist Guillem Balagué, Ramos and Ronaldo told Lewandowski that “there was room for him” in Madrid after the match at Santiago Bernabeu. The Pole has scored 39 goals in 41 games this season for Bayern, while Madrid currently have Karim Benzema, Alvaro Morata, and Mariano Diaz who can play in his position.
Pérez has been keen on Lewandowski to join Los Blancos for a while now and their brief chat can be a sign of things to come in the summer. Bayern have only extended the striker’s contract few weeks ago to 2021, which made him the best paid player in the Bundesliga.
However, despite the extension, the player still has an interest in leaving the Bavarian giants for the Spanish capital. His agent revealed last year that Lewandowski has held talks over the potential move, while his sister gifted him with a shirt in Los Blancos colors. He has yet to win the elusive Champions League title so far and Madrid’s dominance in the competition seems very attractive to him.
