Aguero is regarded as one of the best strikers in the Premier League and the 28-year-old is certainly up there with the finest in that department across world football.
Since moving to Manchester City, Aguero has netted a stunning 154 goals in 234 games across all competitions, but it has been a tricky season for the Argentina international this term.
However, yet again the striker has not been recognised for his talents and was not named on the shortlist for the PFA Player of the Year, which was announced last week. That is despite Aguero netting 17 league goals in 26 games this term – only Alexis Sanchez, Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku have more in the top-flight.
“Sergio Aguero’s wait to win PFA Player of the Year goes on after he did not make this season’s shortlist,” Redknapp told the Daily Mail.
“Aguero is one of the greatest finishers the Premier League has seen but I wonder if his ruthlessness stops his fellow pros voting for him.
“Kevin De Bruyne passed to Leroy Sane when through on goal on Saturday. I’m not sure Aguero would have done the same.”
Redknapp also had his say on the goalscoring exploits of Harry Kane, who is a front-runner to win the PFA award.
“Harry is the man who has the best chance of beating Shearer’s all-time record of 260 goals,” Redknapp told the Mail. “It will be tough but he is young enough and at the right club to succeed — and if he breaks his August hoodoo then he will score even more!
“Tottenham have already surpassed the 70 points they won last season. They are getting better every year and there is no reason why Kane cannot become a Premier League title winner like Shearer, Van Nistelrooy and Henry.”
City overcame the tricky trip to Southampton on Saturday by winning 3-0, with Vincent Kompany, Leroy Sane a Aguero far-post header sealing the points.
Following a Golden Boot-worthy 25 goals last term, Kane’s strike against Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon meant he joined an elite club of just four strikers to score 20 or more Premier League in three consecutive seasons.
Alan Shearer, Thierry Henry and Ruud van Nistelrooy are the other exclusive members of the group.
