Arsenal to sign Eupen youngster for £6.8million

According to Sky Sport, Premier League giant Arsenal has agreed on a £6.8million deal with KAS Eupen for Henry Onyekuru.

There have been talks between the two clubs for over a week now.

Although personal terms have not been met yet, there have been reports that the two club are close to landing a deal on the Nigerian striker.

The 19-year-old striker is said to be an avid Arsenal fan and is keen on moving on to the Emirates.

Onyekuru ended his season at the Belgium club as the highest goal scorer in the Jupiler League scoring 25 times.

Onyekuru who is currently in Nigeria on International duty has also attracted interest from other Premier League sides including Everton, Southampton, West Ham and West Brom.  However, it is the Gunners that has activated his £6.8million release clause.

Chelsea and Liverpool target Henry Onyekuru ‘dreams’ of joining Arsenal because of Thierry Henry

Henry Onyekuru

Eupen attacker Henry Onyekuru has revealed that he dreams of playing for Arsenal as Gunners legend Thierry Henry is his role model.

The Nigerian youngster, who has been linked with Liverpool, has shot to prominence this campaign, scoring 12 goals and providing seven assists in the Belgian top-tier.
As reported by Football.London, Onyekuru said: “I hope to find myself one day in a top club in Europe and to play for my national team.
“The shirt I dream of wearing is Arsenal’s because I’ve always had Thierry Henry as a role model since I was little.
If the 19-year-old did make the move to Emirates Stadium, he wouldn’t be the first Nigerian to play for Arsenal, with striker Nwankwo Kanu having represented Arsene Wenger’s side between 1999 and 2004, while winger Alex Iwobi is currently part of the first-team squad.
Arsenal also have a talented Nigerian youngster on their books in midfielder Kelechi Nwakali, who has produced some encouraging performances on loan at Dutch second division club MVV Maastricht this term.
Although he is capable of playing up front or on the right flank, Onyekuru is usually deployed on the left wing, where he often uses his pace and trickery to excellent effect.
