Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer had the perfect answer when our sister ‘paper the Manchester Evening News took a cheeky dig at the legendary number nine.
It’s 13 years to the day since Manchester United thumped Shearer’s Magpies 6-2 at St James’ Park but instead of reliving the memory the MEN aimed their fire at the Premier League’s all time top goalscorer – who turned down the Red Devils.
Shearer scored 283 league goals in his glittering footballing career, including a record of 260 in the Premier League – a tally that still has not been beaten until this day.
The former England international, who also has a record 11 Premier League hat-tricks to his name, enjoyed fine success during his playing days with both Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle.
After scoring 130 goals for the former and getting his hands on the league title, Shearer earned a then world record £15 million move to St. James Park in 1996.
It was then that Manchester United showed an interest in Shearer, but he today told Man Utd fans to get over the fact he turned them down.
In a tweet aimed by Manchester Evening News’ Twitter page, Shearer hit back at the paper and told them to move on after he turned them down on two occasions.
