‘Arsenal open Oxlade-Chamberlain contract negotiations wary of Liverpool interest’

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Arsenal have finally made moves to open negotiations with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain over a new contract but fear they may be too late to persuade the player to remain in north London.
Oxlade-Chamberlain’s current deal with Arsenal is due to expire next summer but the primary concern at the Emirates Stadium has been securing Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil to new contracts, with their respective deals also running out at the end of next season.
This has left Oxlade-Chamberlain as an afterthought among the Gunners’ hierarchy but the dailymail is reporting that talks are finally set to begin with the 23-year-old over an extension.
However the club are braced for difficulties in the discussions having left it so long to open the negotiations. Liverpool are interested in Oxlade-Chamberlain and could make a move this summer, or wait to sign him on a free next year.
With Jurgen Klopp keen on the midfielder and Oxlade-Chamberlain starting just 13 Premier League matches this season the versatile player may opt to depart Arsenal, which Arsene Wenger won’t be able to stop him doing in just over 12 months time.
therefore, if Oxlade-Chamberlain says no to a new deal then Arsenal may decide to cash in on the former Southampton youngster, although they would be loath to sell him to a Champions League rival.
