Jose Mourinho turned up for his press conference ahead of Sunday’s League Cup final wearing a shirt emblazoned with Claudio Ranieri’s initials and then proceeded to launch a scathing attack on the “selfish” Leicester City players who failed the Italian.

In a staunch defence of Ranieri, who was sacked as Leicester manager on Thursday night just 298 days after leading the club to an extraordinary Premier League title success, the Manchester United manager said: “I think it’s Claudio’s fault because last season instead of being champion had he finished 12^th he’d still be in job because Leicester would play not to be relegated.
